Concept: Corrugated cardboard has inherent
character and beauty. Its useful versatility and
undulating patterns beckon investigation of the
infinite ways this undervalued material may be
used. This workshop explores the potential of
new and recycled cardboard as a material for
creating two- and three-dimensional, functional
and non-functional, objects.
Media & Techniques: Cardboard, wood, plaster,
cement, paint, fire, water, weight, glue, screws,
twist ties, pins and other materials. Turning,
cutting, laminating and shaping cardboard.
Activities: We have lectures, technical demonstrations, slide talks, and plenty of hands-on
time and lots of fun.
Faculty: Jason Schneider received his MFA in
Furniture Design from San Diego State University in 2004. He exhibits his work nationally
and in 2010, was an artist in the traveling furniture show titled Studio Furniture: The Next
Generation. He has lectured at many colleges
and woodworking clubs throughout the country and has been published in a number of
woodworking books and magazines. He is the
Woodworking Program Coordinator at Anderson Ranch Arts Center.

Concept: Our topic is thinking creatively about
lamps. Students learn the mechanics of lamp
making, repair and basic wiring; explore a variety of media, including soldering, assemblage
and painted surfaces.
Media & Techniques: Mixed materials and
found objects: wire, wood, metal, paint and
light bulbs; soldering, gluing, painting and basic
woodworking (and anything else needed to get
the job done).
Activities: Students take trips to the thrift
store, hardware store and local dump. We have
group discussions, slide talks, demonstrations
and extensive work time in the studio.
Faculty: Garry Knox Bennett is an American
woodworker, furniture maker, metalworker and
artist from Oakland, California. He is best known
for his whimsical, inventive and unconventional
uses of materials and designs. His work is represented by Leo Kaplan Gallery, New York, and
the Winfield Gallery in Carmel, California. His
work is in many private collections as well as
the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum
of Art and Design, New York and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
