Donald Judd’s Marfa
Barbara Bloemink
Skill level: Open to all
In the early 1970’s, the artist Donald Judd
moved to the small town of Marfa, West Texas,
to get away from the New York art world and
create his own site to make and exhibit art. He
acquired buildings in Marfa and 40,000 acres
of the Chinati Mountain range. He also established the nearby Chinati Foundation as a place
for permanent exhibitions of his own work and
that of fellow artists Dan Flavin, John Chamberlain, John Wesley, Ilya Kabokov, Claes Oldenburg, Roni Horn and others.
Join Anderson Ranch Executive Director Barbara Bloemink for a four-day, three-night trip to
Judd’s Marfa, including the artist’s living and
working spaces, library, archives, and more.
Through tours of both The Judd Foundation
and Chinati, participants view many of Judd’s
important large-scale permanent installations
and tour de force minimalist works, as well as
those of Judd’s friends and fellow artists.
Participants stay at the luxurious 30,000-acre
Cíbolo Creek Ranch, known as the finest luxury accommodations in the region and located
in the Chinati Mountains.
