In this workshop we learn not only how to weld, but how to visualize ideas and drawings and recreate them three-dimensionally in steel. Each student can expect to learn the basics of welding and create two projects: one utilizing the traditional oxy-acetylene welding system and another with modern arc-welding processes. Media & Techniques:  Steel, paper and cardboard and fundamentals of oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, safe use of hand tools, power tools, machinery and arc-welding systems. Activities:  A slide show gives a brief history of welding, and there are classroom exercises in technique and model-building. Evan gives technical demonstrations on oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, wire feed arc welding and finishing techniques. Faculty: Evan Blackstock is a visual artist who works at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He co-teaches sculpture classes working with metal and teaches a variety of workshops on different welding systems, machinery use and fabrication techniques. Working with many different materials on a daily basis, he also serves as a consultant and fabricator for various projects within the art department.
