Roarrrr! Take a wild walk back in time to when
dinosaurs ruled the earth! We begin our adventure by becoming paleontologists so we can
learn how to study these dynamic beasts.
Adventure walks are taken daily to dig for dinosaurs and discover fossils. Crafts consist of
making molds of bones, creating a diorama out
of sculpted clay and constructing a large collaborative papier-mâché sculpture made with various recycled materials. We top off our imaginative week with a visit from the lizard friends
from the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. To embark on this adventure all you need is
your creativity and a giant sense of wonder!

5, 6, 7, 8! Join us as we explore and become
inspired by sound, rhythm and movement.
Let your creativity flow as we sculpt ceramic
drums, shakers and whistles. In addition to
crafting our own variety of music makers,
our days are filled with listening to live musicians, playing instruments and taking a look
back at famous artists whose works were
inspired by music.
The trunk is packed and the gas tank is filled
up: we’re ready to go. Hop in for a trip across
America! Our first pit stop is Hawai’i–then on to
Alaska, Kansas, Florida and Maine. Each day we
focus on one state as we craft detailed works
of art: Ceramic Kukui Blossoms from Hawai’i,
Bald Eagle sculptures from Alaska, large-scale
Americana paintings from Kansas, seashell
wind chimes from Florida and giant paper
stuffed lobsters from Maine. We also take time
to discover the culture, history and signature
foods from each of these special places.
Lisa Kohlhepp received her BFA in Ceramics
from East Carolina University and attended
continuing studies in ceramics at the University of Massachusetts–Dartmouth. She has
taught children of all ages and enjoys projects
that are lively and interactive.
Kim Henkel is licensed as a certified Art

Discover the amazing world of Austrian artist
and architect Friedrich Hundertwasser. Students design and construct a cityscape and
outdoor environment of their own inspired by
his unique approach to pattern, color, shape
and construction. We produce whimsical
shapes, drawings and paintings, to incorporate into three-dimensional sculptural environments and dwellings. Students use a variety of
materials including found objects, natural elements, paint, paper, foil, fabric and, of course,
glue! We use techniques including stamping,
collage, construction, papier-mâché, painting,
weaving and wirework.
Sure you’re used to traditional sewing with
fabric and thread, but how about stitching aluminum cans into art? Join us for a workshop
that pushes boundaries to create hand-sewn
masterpieces. In this class, a basic stitching
technique is taught to make 2D and 3D art
from an assortment of unusual materials. The
week begins by stitching one-of-a-kind felt
animals and then progresses to embroidering embellished painted canvas with avantgarde beadwork. We finish the week with an
amazing recycled mural made from wire and
aluminum “quilt” panels. This workshop is
guaranteed to enhance your sewing skills and
broaden your imagination!
Maggie Stewart is a professional artist and
owner of Mama’s Belly Inc., a business specializing in bronze belly bowls! She has taught
for the past 25 years in a variety of museums,
art centers, schools and colleges.

arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She
is a local artist who works in encaustic and
mixed media.
