Rosalyn Schwartz, V Series I (detail) Phyllis Bramson, The Secret Life of People Who Care (detail) Gary Simmons, Midnight Matinee (detail) June 11 - 15 June 18 - 22 June 18 - 22 The Power of Paint Rosalyn Schwartz Skill Level:  III Concept: Try as we might, good ideas do not automatically translate into good paintings. This mode of working can often turn out to be a problem rather than a solution. In this workshop students increase their technical knowledge and conceptual understanding of how formal painting choices fundamentally contribute to the success of a painting. Learn to rely less on words to explain the content of a work and more on the paint’s ability to physically represent an idea. Ideally, the work becomes more visually compelling in the process. Media & Techniques: Oil painting (preferably) or acrylic on canvas, sketchbook drawing, charcoal, pencils, pens, collected visual resources. Activities: We begin with a brief overview of modern and contemporary painting. We discuss form and content as it applies to painting and various working methodologies. Studies develop into completed paintings by the end of the week. There are daily group and individual critiques. Faculty: Rosalyn Schwartz taught painting and drawing for 20 years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has also taught at West Virginia University, Morgantown, University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a Bush Foundation Fellowship and a McKnight Foundation Fellowship. In 2013 Rosalyn will have a show at the McNay Museum of Art in San Antonio.   www.rosalynschwartz.com Tuition: $920 OR Tuition + Studio Support Donation: $1120 Studio Fee: $75 Code: D0204 Enrollment Limit 10 40  Drawing as Installation: standing in a drawing Phyllis Bramson Skill Level:  III Concept:  Expand drawing into the threedimensional realm during this multimedia workshop.
