CONCEPT: We will look at contemporary artists who create
multi-sensory pieces, and discuss how the use of sculpture,
sound and image may provide dynamic avenues for visual
expression. Technical and conceptual expertise will be offered
to each participant to help facilitate the creation of a unique
work of art utilizing 3D elements, sound, and/or image. Group
and individual critiques will take place on a daily basis. This
workshop is designed for artists/students with some sculpture
background and an interest in incorporating sound and image.
CONCEPT: Our aim will be to build simple electronic sculptures
out of found or discarded “junk” (such as old electronics,
clothing, gadgets, etc.). Participants will complete the “MIDI
Scrapyard Challenge” by building simple musical controllers
from discarded objects; the “DIY Wearable Challenge” by
creating wearable tech projects from used clothing, and the
“DIY Urban Challenge” by working on public space interventions. This workshop will involve building both individual and
group projects. Expect an open and exploratory environment
open to anyone interested in exploring new interface design.
CONCEPT: We will use a found object brought by the participant to generate ideas for a sculptural piece. Using guided
visualization, we will explore the stories of the object, as
every object carries the resonance of everyone and everything that has come into contact with it. Moving the energy
of these stories through our ideas and through the chosen
materials and our crafting, we manifest a new object. This
is basically an alchemical transmutation: the ideas will dictate the choice of materials and construction technique. Our
sculptures will be constructed using a variety of techniques
and materials, according to the vision, style, and skill level of
the participants.

MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Class discussions will include digital
image capture, digital audio capture, basic audio and video
editing techniques and basic printing for digital still images.
A comprehensive tool shop, with skilled staff, is available for
construction of works of art.
