MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Wood construction; basic joinery; hand
carving techniques; mechanized carving processes; sharpening; and finishes, including paint, stains, oils and wax.
ACTIVITIES: Studio work; technical demonstrations; slide presentations; discussions and critiques.
PREREQUISITES: Knowledge of basic 3D design and woodworking will be useful, but is not required. Students should
have a strong desire to share ideas, discover new things, and
work hard.
FACULTY: Susan Hagen is an artist, writer and educator, and
the recipient of awards from the George Sugarman Foundation, the Leeway Foundation, and the Independence Foundation. Her work is currently represented by Center of the Earth
Gallery in Charlotte, NC, and Schmidt Dean Gallery in Philadelphia. Her exhibition of site-specific sculptural dioramas,
“Recollection Tableaux,” will be on exhibit at Eastern State
Penitentiary Historic Site in Philadelphia through November

ACTIVITIES: Mornings will include drawing, quick model studies,
material investigations and demonstrations. Afternoon activities
will include fabrication of sculptures and individual critiques.
PREREQUISITES: Beginning to advanced students. Those interested in intensive exploration of form and content through
basic fabrication methods.
FACULTY: Nathan Lynch, a sculptor and performance artist, has
made collaboration and experimentation major components
of his practice. In 2007 he had solo exhibitions at Johansson
Projects, Oakland, CA and Southern Exposure, San Francisco.
Lynch studied with Ken Price at the University of Southern
California and Ron Nagle at Mills College. He is currently
Chair of the Ceramics Department and Assistant Professor at
