CONCEPT: This workshop is for the photographic artist ready
for “the next step,” particularly those who feel their creative
workflow is incomplete or poorly organized. It is also ideal for
individuals needing to design and implement d igital imaging
classes and workshops. We’ll begin with field trips to several
iconic Rocky Mountain locations to capture imagery that can
be used in creating a body of work — a visual expression of
a place, a time, one’s dreams, a state of mind. In the studio
we’ll work to create a unique statement. We’ll emphasize
developing a personal creative workflow — from image capture through editing, processing, and presentation — while
exploring a variety of approaches and outcomes.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Digital field photography equipment.
Macintosh workstations. Image processing with Adobe Photoshop and other applications. Epson archival printers. Digital
projection, Web site presentations.
ACTIVITIES: Field trips. Individual computer time with talks
on technical options: RAW capture, HDR imaging, b/w conversion, archival printing, collage, multimedia presentation,
archiving, etc. Processing and evaluating images. Presentations and critiques.
PREREQUISITES: Working knowledge of digital photography
and competence in Photoshop. Those with a desire to experiment, grow as an artist and assemble a body of work.
FACULTY: David Hiser has published works in over 100 National
Geographic Society publications. He is the former owner of
a stock photography agency, and is currently represented
worldwide by Getty Images. His book, Aspen’s Rugged
Splendor, is on amazon.com.

CONCEPT: This new workshop focuses on how we see and
make photographs. Specific visual exercises designed to
improve compositional skill will help guide students in the
production of dynamic and powerful images. We’ll consider
how the camera simultaneously limits and expands our
vision and address the choices we make in framing an image.
In a supportive and personable atmosphere, Zoe will help
each participant create images that are unique and unexpected. Students will gain control over figure-ground relationships, and examine interesting ways to structure an image.
PREREQUISITES: Open to all people who are interested in thinking about seeing, who want to make better photographs, and
who want to have a lot of fun with a camera.
