Printmaking
Woodturning
The Certificate Program in Printmaking provides a flexible, comprehensive structure for
acquiring the technical skills and analytical tools that establish a solid, vibrant printmaking
practice. Students will acquire needed skills through practical and theoretical practices in
printmaking. The curriculum encourages students to develop the capacity for a unique visual
expression as well as an understanding of contemporary printmaking. Students choose from
a variety of courses covering a broad survey of printmaking techniques, using both traditional
and new technologies.
The Certificate Program in Woodturning provides a flexible, comprehensive structure for
acquiring the technical and analytical skills necessary for establishing a solid, vibrant, selfreliant practice in functional or sculptural woodturning. The program regards woodturning as
an evolving art form and emphasizes instruction in a range of practical techniques integrated
with an understanding of the whole process of visual expression from design, color and compositional basics through advanced critique. The curriculum encourages students to develop
an understanding of woodturning in the context of contemporary art practice.
Specific Course Requirements (11 weeks required)
1-week critical studies course
1-week 2D/3D foundation course addressing line, texture, mass, plane, space, color, etc.
1-week drawing course
1-week course in another discipline
1-week introduction to printmaking/survey course
2 1-week beginner to intermediate printmaking courses
3 1-week advanced printmaking courses
1-week Photoshop course

Sculpture
The Certificate Program in Sculpture provides a flexible, comprehensive structure for acquiring the technical and analytical skills necessary for establishing a vibrant, self-reliant practice
in sculpture. The program embraces the full spectrum of sculptural practice and establishes
a solid base of technique, constructive skills and conceptual strategies while providing the
theoretical and historical framework necessary for developing a conceptually sophisticated,
critical/self-analytical, contemporary sculpture practice.
Specific Course Requirements (14 weeks required)
1-week critical studies course
1-week 2D/3D foundation course addressing line, texture, mass, plane, space, color, etc.
1-week drawing course
1-week course in another discipline
1-week basic tools and techniques class
1-week basic sculpture course on concepts in metal or wood
2-week course in casting
2 1-week intermediate courses on mixed media sculpture
2 1-week courses in new genres: performative, electronic/digital, installation,
audio or film/video
2 1-week advanced courses in sculpture theory/ practice

General Rules
The Certificate Program is open to all. There are no prerequisites. Students can apply courses
taken at Anderson Ranch within the last four years prior to entering the Certificate Program,
subject to the approval of the respective Program Director. In order to receive the certificate,
all courses must be taken at Anderson Ranch. Although no grades will be given, Faculty must
confirm the student has satisfactorily completed each course. There is no limitation on the
number of years required to complete the certificate program.
Anderson Ranch Arts Center offers a
unique opportunity for K-12 art educators to reconnect as artists
and earn continuing education credits. Fifteen art educators from around the nation will be selected to think critically
