Teens, 1:30 - 5:30 pm
Tuition: $480 Studio Fee: $125
Code: P0513 Enrollment Limit 10
CONCEPT: Pinhole cameras are made from any light-tight container that houses an aperture and some form of light-sensitive material. This simple approach to photography happens
without benefit of lenses, and requires no manner of specialized accessories. Cameras can be made from shoe boxes,
coconuts…even a human mouth! This workshop teaches the
basics of pinhole photography through a series of daily, lowtech camera-making exercises. Using handmade cameras,
students will explore an immensely accessible and flexible
alternative photographic process. By workshop’s end, participants will have gained a sense of the pinhole’s relevance
in art and science, as well as the basics of pinhole camera
design and fabrication. Students will also learn wet darkroom
techniques, making contact prints and enlarging mediumformat negatives.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students will make their own cameras.
Darkroom skills include film-negative enlargement and papernegative contact printing.
ACTIVITIES: Each day students will build and shoot from
scratch-built, kit-based and found-object-inspired cameras.
The class will also cover negative enlargement and contact
printing of paper negatives.
FACULTY: Benjamin Wooten received his MFA in 2007 in
woodworking and furniture design from the University of
