teens July 20 - 24 THE TEENS’ program is scheduled by many of the Ranch’s artistic staff and offered at locations throughout the campus. We feature classes in photography, painting and drawing, and music video production. Foundations Drawing Class for Teens  Elizabeth Pollard Jenny    These classes are designed for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19 and are structured to stimulate the creative process in a supportive enviroment for young adults. Teens, 1:00 - 4:30 pm Tuition: $330  Studio Fee: $50 Code: K0814  Enrollment Limit 14 CONCEPT: In this course, the fundamentals of drawing will be presented, as well as exercises for developing good observational skills and techniques. Rather than working from photos or other imagery, students will study and draw real objects. One class session will focus on portraits and drawing the human figure and face. Another session will focus on drawing animals. Lighting and composition, along with formal elements like shape, tone and line will be considered. A range of drawing media and supports (different kinds of paper, as well as other surfaces) will be discussed. July 6 - 9 Music Video Production  Jointly presented with Aspen Film Joel Lee    Ages 12 and up, Mon. - Thurs., 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Tuition: $480  Studio Fee: $100 Code: K0610  Enrollment Limit 10 June 29 - July 3 Handmade Cameras:pinhole photography Benjamin Wooten    Teens, 1:30 - 5:30 pm Tuition: $480  Studio Fee: $125 Code: P0513  Enrollment Limit 10 CONCEPT: Pinhole cameras are made from any light-tight container that houses an aperture and some form of light-sensitive material. This simple approach to photography happens without benefit of lenses, and requires no manner of specialized accessories. Cameras can be made from shoe boxes, coconuts…even a human mouth! This workshop teaches the basics of pinhole photography through a series of daily, lowtech camera-making exercises. Using handmade cameras, students will explore an immensely accessible and flexible alternative photographic process. By workshop’s end, participants will have gained a sense of the pinhole’s relevance in art and science, as well as the basics of pinhole camera design and fabrication. Students will also learn wet darkroom techniques, making contact prints and enlarging mediumformat negatives. MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students will make their own cameras. Darkroom skills include film-negative enlargement and papernegative contact printing. ACTIVITIES:  Each day students will build and shoot from scratch-built, kit-based and found-object-inspired cameras. The class will also cover negative enlargement and contact printing of paper negatives.
