The emphasis will be on the creation of a unique, personal way of seeing, and the development of an intuitive way of editing your photographs. digital workflow MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: 35mm digital SLR Greg Gorman & R. Mac Holbert    ACTIVITIES: We will begin with a critique of student portfolios. By the first afternoon you will start working on your first selfdirected assignment. You may photograph whatever intrigues you, but it must be something that you’re passionate enough about to return to photograph everyday. We will work to build a coherent set of images for each photographer that represents his or her photographic stance or attitude toward the world. We will view this work as a group at the end of the workshop. In addition to photographing and editing each day, there will be print and book demonstrations and editing exercises. Discussions will include how to photograph in a culture other than one’s own, the relationship between images (such as the sequencing and juxtaposition of photographs), how to edit photographs intuitively, the practical realities of the magazine and art worlds, the emotional and psychological implications of working in color vs. black & white, the difference between images in a book and images on the wall, and how long-term projects can evolve into books and exhibitions.   Students are asked to bring 30 PRINTS of any size (NOT digital files), that they feel best represents who they are as photographers. SKILL LEVEL: Levels II - III (Minimum Skill Level II) – See page 10 for
