Create your very own comic strip and art zine! We
begin by taking a look at different examples of comics
and alternative publications to better understand the
techniques of graphic art. Then we learn how to draw,
carve, and print our comics using soft-kut linoleum
blocks. We combine the arts of printmaking, collage, and
bookbinding to make our very own art zines complete
with original expressive storylines and artwork. Before
the week is over we will also print our comic strips for all
to see on t-shirts and tote bags to take home!
Explore the world of autonomous robots, programming
and mechanical engineering to design and build art
robots using the LEGO Education EV-3 Mindstorms
platform. Students learn the basics of programming and
how to build simple, structurally sound robots. We add
attachments with pens and brushes to create designs,
signs, and other robot art. Perhaps you can program a Van
Goghbot or a Monetbot. Artwork is yours to take home
and students will make video and photographic footage of
the robots engaging in art through programming.

Ever wanted to make a piece of paper come to life? Ever
dreamt of seeing yourself fly across the screen? Fire
up your imagination and get ready to learn the basics
of stop-motion animation. Frame by frame, students
will create short animations using a variety of media.
We experiment using clay, wire, paper, and other fun
objects to make interesting sets and characters. Students
are equipped with cameras, computers, and easy-touse animation software. Come discover the magic of
animation while also learning the techniques of filming,
editing, and character design.
VERONICA MADERO grew up in Mexico and loved art
workshops as a kid. She spent many summers going to
museums, painting, and learning. She graduated with
a degree in the visual arts, and an associate degree in
special effects and animation. She currently makes films
and lives in Carbondale, CO.
