Repurposing is the art of finding new uses for old items.
In this workshop we explore how to reinvent everyday
objects and transform them into new and beautiful artistic
creations. We find our inspiration from old magazines,
bottle caps, tin cans, coffee filters, wire hangers, plastic
bottles, silverware and more! The sky’s the limit for our
imaginations as we reinvent these everyday items into
functional and decorative pieces. Students will make
magazine bowls, hanging tin lanterns, mosaic picture
frames, and recycled paper journals. Come join in on the
fun and rethink what art can be!
Kazaam! Pow! Varoom! This week let’s take a look
at famous artists that were a part of the American
Pop Art Movement. We discover the dot paintings of
Roy Lichenstein, Andy Warhol’s Campbell soup cans,
Jim Dine’s hearts, and Claes Oldenburg’s giant cloth
sculptures. We take our inspiration from the masters to
create our own Pop art pieces that reference modern
day popular culture. Students use a variety of different
media such as papier-mâché, construction paper, paint,
chalk, fabric and more to create bright, bold and beautiful
creations.
Come join us as we learn how to make art from natural
fibers! Fibers come from both plants and animals, the
most common fibers being wool, cotton, linen and paper.
In this workshop, we learn all sorts of fiber arts such as
felting, paper quilling, weaving and dyeing techniques.
We begin the week by dyeing our own wool to make
felted sculptures, some functional others decorative.
Then we take time to learn the sculptural possibilities of
paper by creating 3-D paintings, baskets, and bags. Fiber
arts are not just limited to knitting, let your creativity soar
with this less common art medium!
