SKILL LEVEL: II
SKILL LEVEL: II - IV
SKILL LEVEL: III
CONCEPT: Working in square or rectangular standard
formats, we explore multiple methods of image creation,
to be used together to build various textures and layers
in monoprints.
CONCEPT: This course combines two distinct media
that share sensibilities. Printmaking and ceramics have
a long tradition of blending technical know-how and
ideas, and each embraces experimentation in surprising
ways. Artists experiment and mash both media
together. This is a generous, open experience for artists
interested in broadening their skills. Themes include the
link between process and materials, allowing accidents
to happen in the studio.
CONCEPT: Explore traditional and alternative mark
making tools and print techniques in this hands-on
workshop. Using inexpensive, readily available materials
and sustainable and re-purposed supplies, we introduce
new directions of the contemporary printed matrix with
an emphasis on physical texture. We examine both
constructive and reductive processes in the development
of topographic approaches to relief and intaglio
printmaking techniques using recycled fiberboard and
plywood plates.
building a vocabulary of images
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students use Intaglio-based
techniques; students make silk collagraph plates,
sandpaper plates, carborundum aquatint plates, and
Plexiglas drypoint plates.
ACTIVITIES: We begin each day with platemaking
demos, followed by individual working time and press
time with faculty and interns.
FACULTY: Sue Oehme is the owner of Oehme Graphics,
based in Steamboat Springs, CO. She has been a master
printer for 25 years, working at Tyler Graphics, Riverhouse
Editions and her own studio. She is also a mixed-media
artist.

MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students use earthenware
clays in oxidation, relief printing, laser cut rubber
stamps, laser etching, stencil printing combined hand
painting, mono printing from clay slabs, decal making,
multiple firing techniques. Students utilize handbuilding,
slabs and bisque tiles.
ACTIVITIES: We learn through hands on
demonstrations, informal group discussions, and
personal instruction. Large blocks of creative time are
allotted for individual work. The group will engage in
problem-solving techniques in an open and encouraging
discussions. This course will move between the print
shop and use ceramics as a home base.
FACULTY: Michael Krueger works in a variety of media,
from animation for the documentary film “DROP CITY” to
prints, ceramics, drawing and painting. Michael’s work
is widely exhibited .

MDF board printing plates, learn plate inking processes,
and press operation. Daily demonstrations, technical
assistance and conceptual feedback from the instructor
are paired with ample studio time.
