CONCEPT: Building on the basic digital photography
foundations, this course reviews the basics of
photography, increases students’ understanding of digital
shooting techniques and introduces new technical and
conceptual skills. Topics covered include: advanced
camera functions; an introduction to flash and userfriendly lighting techniques; using complex compositional
elements of photography; and shooting a thematic series.
Daily critique and shooting sessions in the picturesque
Rocky Mountains address technical and aesthetic
considerations. The goal is to inspire and challenge us
to make conscious decisions that produce compelling
photographs.

CONCEPT: Spend a dynamic day photographing some
of the most scenic landscapes in the Rocky Mountains:
sites near Aspen and Snowmass with mountain views,
sparkling streams, a multitude of wildflowers and
100-year-old artifacts from bygone mining days. This
“photographer’s dream tour” reveals many possibilities
that may be revisited later with in-depth visual
exploration.

CONCEPT: The iPhone has become one of the most
ubiquitous, innovative and playful photographic tools in
our daily experience. But this powerful device is capable
of so much more. With the ever-widening array of
creative applications and an emerging practice of creative
photographic interventions, the iPhone has also become
a uniquely powerful and self-contained creative editing
device. This class examines how to use your iPhone to
produce images that capture the imagination. We explore
how to make the most of your camera’s settings and
introduce emerging applications to render the full and
breathtaking potential of our images.

MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students use a digital camera
with manual exposure capabilities, compatible flash and
sync cord, Adobe Lightroom to import, view, discuss and
print images.
