symposium series The Ranch launched a new Symposium Series in 2014 to provide expansive forums for critical dialogue on contemporary art. The 2014 Series included two components — a panel discussion featuring the four authors of The Reckoning: Women Artists of the New Millennium, Eleanor Heartney, Helaine Posner, Nancy Princenthal and Sue Scott, in conversation with photographer Catherine Opie, as well as a two-day symposium, entitled Making the Change They Want To See, curated by Anne Pasternak, President and Artistic Director of Creative Time. The artists invited to participate in Making the Change They Want to See all use their creative practices to affect social change and to endeavor to bring greater justice into the world through their unique insights, provocations and other new artistic models of activism. Those included were such luminaries as British artist, filmmaker and Oscar®-winning film director Steve McQueen, and renowned New York Times art critic Holland Cotter. Other international participants included Tania Bruguera, Mel Chin, Greg Dobbs, Loren Jenkins, Laurie Jo Reynolds, Darrell Cannon and Superflex. 14 AndersonRanch arts center 2014 summer series The Symposium Series was made possible by the generous support of Rona and Jeffrey Citrin, Pamela Joseph and Robert Brinker and Toby Devan Lewis.
