E-MOBILITY TO THE EXTREME
Such battery power densities require the best charging technologies available . The charging stations themselves come from the Italian manufacturer Enel . However , on closer inspection , the connoisseur will also see wellknown technology from East Westphalia : The CCS charging connectors and sockets from Phoenix Contact are integral components in filling these hotrods with power .
Crazy acceleration The ride on the electric cannonball is not without its problems , as top driver Bradley Smith of Team One Energy Racing from England reveals in an interview . “ The acceleration straight out of the curve is simply amazing . Of course you notice the extra weight of the machine on the brakes , so I have to pull earlier and harder . This also takes time . And in tight corners I have to steer the bike around much more with my body weight . It ’ s hard work . But in terms of speed , the level of Moto2 has already been reached . And we ’ re still at the beginning .”
2019 was the start of the series at the German Sachsenring . Phoenix Contact E-Mobility is an official partner of the Energica Motor Company SPA . The Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer not only now produces three sinfully beautiful
e-bikes for the road , but also all the motorcycles for the various racing teams . 18 machines are available to 12 racing stables . Uniform technology in a racing series guarantees very special excitement , because the driver and their skills are the most important factors . The racing motorcycles are based on the street-legal and freely available “ Energica Ego ”.
Success despite breakdowns Although the actual race at the Sachsenring was limited to just eight laps , this did not detract from the seriousness of the riders and their crews , because the hot e-bikes were extensively maintained , optimized in their details , and star riders were hired who are able to shoot the bikes around the track the way they are intended to be .
You can ’ t plan everything : The race was stopped on Sunday after just five laps – due to a hard fall caused by the sudden rainy weather . Our interviewee Bradley Smith finished second , behind the Finn Niki Tuuli from the Ajo Team . He is therefore entitled to the historic honor of being the first winner of the MotoE racing series . And beneath him , hidden by his racing suit and all the branding , a small but important piece of East Westphalia rode along on the victory ride . ( lo ) •
