E-MOBILITY TO THE EXTREME by the likes of Ducati , Yamaha , Honda , and similar brands . But in the meantime , a completely new form of electrified locomotion on two wheels is moving through the metropolises of the world , especially in Asia . There , it is becoming increasingly difficult for the established big names to gain approvals for their motorcycles with combustion engines . The smog clouds created by the mostly cheap single engines , often two-strokes , which rattled through the narrow streets by the tens of thousands , were simply too extreme . And even though the modern engines produced by the established manufacturers are significantly less polluting than their distant relatives made in cheap , simple production facilities , all forms of combustion engines are facing increasing difficulties .
It started with the scooter As a consequence , the triumphal march of electromobility began first and foremost by shaking up the scooter market . And it is gradually encroaching on the field of the larger two-wheelers as well . Against the backdrop of climate change and the energy revolution , this is a logical step .
So there is a great deal of interest in bringing electromobility into racing as well . And in the twowheeled sector , the proximity of series to racing bike is more pronounced and the development is faster and financially more manageable than in the four-wheel Formula 1 category .
And the racy speedsters do not have to hide from their exhaust gas-emitting counterparts . Although their battery load makes them much heavier than , say , the premier class in Moto GP ( 157 kg versus 260 kg ), they have long since achieved speeds and lap times equivalent to those of Moto2 , the second strongest prototype racing class in the motorcycle world championship .
Performance explosion The batteries , which the electric racing motorcycles have placed where the tank and the motor unit are located for motorcycles with combustion engines , have a capacity of 21 kW / h . This is enough to cover racing distances of eight to ten laps – quite sufficient for the introduction of a completely new racing series with new technology .
The performance levels practically exploded , from an already-remarkable 130 kW ( 177 PS ) to 200 kW ( 272 PS ), and in qualifying even reaching 250 kW ( 340 PS ). And this with the typical characteristic of electric motors , which provide their maximum torque of around 215 Newton meters almost immediately . à
