è UPDATE : Mr . Bent , an all electric society – what is behind this vision and what was the reason for making this the mission statement for the next ten years of Phoenix Contact ? Bent : The All Electric Society describes a future in which electrical energy generated from renewable sources is available worldwide as the primary type of energy in sufficient quantities and in an entirely economical way .
There were several reasons why we made this vision our guiding principle . On the one hand , of course , we are literally starting a new decade . And not just on the calendar , but also with a new management team , a new Executive Board . And in the first half of this decade , in 2023 , Phoenix Contact will turn 100 years old .
But these are merely the framework conditions , which are just right . The actual technological and social changes that we are all facing together have been much more important to us . What will our company be like in the coming decades ? What do we stand for ? Which external impulses will we take on and how will they influence our actions ?

Bent : Carbon dioxide , the use of fossil fuels , climate change – the relevance of this global challenge can no longer be ignored . How we deal with it will define both the whole of humanity , but also us as a company . The trend has been clear for a long time , but now concrete measures to combat climate change must be incorporated into our business activities .
Climate change will define our era . This is a global commitment , manifested in the Paris Climate Change Convention . And this has long been expressed in economic terms , most recently since Larry Fink , the boss of BlackRock , one of the largest financial investors , has made a commitment to invest only in sustainable technologies with his enormous endowment fund . This attitude leads to dramatic changes .
è UPDATE : What exactly is the All Electric Society ? Bent : The issue of the growing world population is coupled with the question of how clean energy can be made available in sufficient quantities . By 2050 , we expect global energy demand to increase by 50 percent . And yet today , 850 million people still have no access to any type of electricity at all . The hunger for energy will increase dramatically . And the solution to this dilemma cannot lie in surrender – in other words , in saving energy – alone . It can and must only be achieved technologically ; only with new innovations .
