The New York Times stated that many immigrant advocates want Obama to hold off his deferral program since it has caused as many as 11.7 million illegal immigrants to come rushing into the USA. Ever since President Obama has started this reform, there has been great delay for immigrants. Receiving visas for family, loved ones, or spouses from another country that plan to become legal after getting a visa is almost impossible due to the long wait. Julia Preston from the New York Times says, “Over the past year, waits for visas went from 5 months to 15 months. More than 500,000 applicants became stuck in the pipeline, playing havoc with international moves and children’s schools and keeping families apart.”

Considering America is a country made up of immigrants, we must be welcoming to those who want the freedom we provide. In order for that to occur, it must be done legally to provide an equitable immigration process.

President Obama has announced a new reform plan to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. Is it the right thing to do, considering the wait many legal immigrants have to go through? According to John Boozman, a senator from Arkansas, “President Obama’s plans are misguided and clearly an overreach of office.” The powers given to each branch of government are stated in the Constitution. Congress makes the laws, not the president.

What's the point in securing our borders and making it harder to cross if the President is just going to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants?
