Handle Discrimination

By Madison Heth

2.) Don’t shoot the messenger.

You may be tempted to get angry at the person complaining about discrimination because now you have to deal with it in the workplace/school, but do everything you can to not get angry. Remember discrimination is a delicate situation, and your job is to help.

4.) Be Supportive.

Always stay positive for the victim of discrimination. Keeping an optimistic attitude will help them successfully work through the situation instead of adding stress.

1.) Always Show Respect and Support.

Whether you believe that someone is being discriminated or not, you should always be respectful and compassionate with the victim and assailant. If you don’t, you could only make the situation worse.

3.) Don’t retaliate.

Although it’s a natural instinct to seek revenge, never threaten the person who is discriminating another person or you might get in just as much trouble. Remember harassment is against the law, and it’s not going to fix the problem.

Discrimination hurts. It brings people down and keeps us all from reaching our fullest potential, both at school and in the work place. But you don’t have to let it control you. Try some of these helpful steps below if you are personally experiencing discrimination or know a victim of it.
