Racism: Is it Real?

Racism: a very common word used in our media, a word used by many, but maybe not fully unsterstood. How often have you met someone who thinks his/her race is superior to others?

Is there racism at North High?

I interviewed a few students and faculty to get their perspective on this issue. I asked them how prevalent discrimination is in our school, and here’s what North High had to say.

Mrs. Cantrel: Kids self-segregate. They like being with people of same background. The faculty tries to be sensitive and present different viewpoints. Many white students do not realize or recognize racism. But minorities have a very different outlook.

 Mr. Roberts:

I think the biggest cause of racism is ignorance. Whenever you put multicultures together, like we do at NHS, there is going to be racism. People are just not considerate of other people’s beliefs.
