Shots Fired

They were the shots heard around the country. Michael Brown, an African-American, age 18 was shot and killed on August 9, 2014, by a white police officer. Brown had earlier stolen from a con- venient store before being confronted by Officer Darren Wilson. Officer Wilson shot an unarmed Brown 12 times with 6 of the shots hitting him.

After Darren Wilson was not indicted for killing Michael Brown, riots exploded for a second time in Ferguson as well as over the country as the people of Ferguson disagreed with the jury’s decision. In New York, a gunman had shot and

These events caused a vigorous debate be- tween law enforcement and African Americans all over the country, each side of the story showing its own perspective and forcing people to choose a side--the police or the protesters.
