" Lighting a candle in the darkness ."

Alejandro was born into a privileged position in his home country of Mexico , came to the United States as a student , and after recession in Mexico , found himself working three jobs in order to remain and complete his education .

Today he calls the United States “ home ” and runs a film company . The Greek word Metanoia means “ a transformative change of heart .” It ’ s an appropriate name for the company Monteverde co-founded , Metanoia Films . As a young filmmaker , Monteverde began to realize the influence of his art form – that his work had the power to change how people think and believe .
“ I got really , really scared ,” he said .
From those fears , he forged a commitment to make films with a positive message – films that would “ light a candle in the darkness ,” he says . He partnered with actor Eduardo Verastegui and director Leo Severino , and the “ three amigos ” formed Metanoia Films . Bella , his first full-length feature film , won the People ’ s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival .
For Alejandro , Metanoia is about lighting a candle when others are cursing the darkness .
