American Circus Educators Magazine Winter 2018 (Issue 3, Volume 14) | Page 2

WINTER 2018 // ISSUE 3, VOL. 14 Dear Community, ABOUT Founded in 2014, the American Circus Educators Association (ACE) is a branch of the American Youth Circus Organization (AYCO), a non-profit organization that supports the diversity of circus educators by organizing festivals & conferences, advocating for circus education, generating and sharing resources and information, and setting guidelines for safety in circus education and practice. For information about events, membership, or to get involved, visit americancircuseducators.org. It is an inspiring thing to be surrounded by the members of the American Circus Educators Association. At the 2018 ACE conference in Decatur, Georgia, from October 4 to 7th every inch of the Decatur Recreation Center was filled with conversation, exchange, discovery, and connection. We had an impressive number of first-time EdCon attendees, who were welcomed to the fold by our engaged veteran members. Along with sharing technique tips and teaching tools, we tackled some difficult topics together - among them abuse prevention, systematic societal injustice, and barriers to accessibility. These discussions and presentations were only the beginning of incredibly important and necessary work for our organization and our industry.
