Dear AmCham Macedonia members and friends –
Welcome to the Winter 2016 edition of Emerging Macedonia. I hope you’ll benefit from our coverage of
Macedonia’s progress and remaining challenges related to its grey economy. You’ll also find coverage of a
number of other hot topics on the national and international business scene, in addition to coverage of
our recent events.
In particular, I’d like to highlight that in February, we plan to kick off the AmCham events calendar with an
event focused on consumer protection and competition. The gathering will give company representatives
the opportunity to meet with the Director of the State Market Inspectorate, as well as with leaders of the
country’s consumer protection organizations. They will also be able to learn more about Competition Law
trends in the region.
In AmCham leadership news, we’ve reluctantly bid an early farewell to two great Board members this January,
Miroslav Marchev and Emre Kozlu. Miroslav served a total of over 3 years on AmCham’s Board, including as its
President in 2014-2015. He was also a key driver of Legal & Tax Committee over the past several years, leading
a number of advocacy initiatives during that time. We wish Miroslav all the best in his new role as Tax Services
Leader in PwC Svetovanje in Slovenia. Despite Emre Kozlu’s Board service lasting just one year, he managed
to contribute meaningfully to the design, execution and visibility of AmCham events and programs. We’re
confident he will bring the same positive energy to his new role with Philip Morris International, Turkey.
Finally, I’d like to be among the first to welcome two new temporary members to our Board of Directors:
• Mihael Solter, General Manager of Philip Morris-TKP; and
• Georgi Markov, Senior Manager, Leader of PWC Macedonia’s Tax and Legal Services Practice.
Looking forward to our successful cooperation in 2016,
Michelle Osmanli
