Fall 2018 / Issue 59 above the national average, it inevitably leads to an increase in the personal standard of employees and their families. Do you think that the education sector in this seg- ment will develop? What is the level of interest of the new students at the Faculty of Mining in the recent period? Prof. Golomeov: Unquestionably, intensifying the activ- ities in the mining sector by issuing more concessions for Mining, at least in the Republic of Mace- donia, is the most regulated industrial branch under the constant supervision of the inspection institutions. According to the legislation, which is completely harmonized with the European directives for environmental protection, each mine is obliged to possess an A integrated environmental permit, for which it is nec- essary to comply with very strict environ- mental standards in terms of the impact on the surrounding surface and ground- water, air and soil COVER STORY detailed geological explorations and exploitation, which would lead to the opening of new modern mines, there will be significant increase in the interest of young people for studying at our faculty. Of course, the secured work- place and above-average incomes are additional motif for young people. We are witnessing considerably diminished interest in youth engaging in engineering professions. This trend boils down to several aspects; on the one hand, seriousness of the studies, and on the other hand, the uncertain possibility for employment in the field of exper- tise along with low average incomes are considered pretty disastrously. With the opening of new modern mines with semi-automated and automated technological processes of exploitation and preparation of mineral resources, with a high level of protection of employees, considerably decreasing the negative impact on the wider environ- ment, the perception of mining in the common man will change. Uninformation and misinformation unjustifiably create a negative attitude towards mining by civil environ- mental associations that are then transferred to the wider community. This is a trend not only in our country but also in the wider Europe and around the world. On the other hand, our modern lifestyle is determined by the use of mineral resources. Mineral necessity is increasing rapidly every day. Therefore, it is necessary to realize that the fight for a healthy environment is not anyone’s exclusive right, but only working together as a vocation, civic asso- ciations and state authorities, we can provide sustainable economic development and a healthy environment.
