Blankets for PAWS
As student ambassadors it's in our nature to come up with new and interesting ways of helping the community in any way we can. This involves working, serving and making things not only for the people of our community but for the animals.
One project the ambassadors decided on was to make tie blankets for the local animal shelter, PAWS For Life. As winter was nearing the ambassadors agreed and jumped on the idea of supplying cats and dogs with warm comfortable blankets to sleep on.
First, we had to get the materials to make the blankets, flannel old sheets, anything that could be cut up and repurposed was included on the list. Fliers were made asking the public for donations and this proved to be a good way to get the word out as we received quite a lot of material to choose from.
On one of our work days in class we all showed up ready to work. Some of us split up into groups of two or three and that made the making of the blankets easier as one work would cut the material then the other would come after and tie the ends together.
Our work day was the first major production of blankets and it gave us a good start for the days to come. Outside the classroom some ambassadors took home their blankets to work on them and some coordinated day s that they could get together to work on the project together. After about a week or two the blankets were ready to be taken to the shelter.
We were told the shelter was grateful for our work and thanked us for thinking of the animals as they usually don't get to sleep on anything comfortable.
This work projects I believe brought us together and further taught us how to coordinate and work together even when we don't have a set scheduled time to work we made the time for t a project we were set on finishing. We did not have a leader per say but we were leaders in taking control of our own blankets and contributing to the bigger cause which was to make enough for all the animals. Also I bet the animals were happy that they were thought of and given something made of love and hard work.
