Expectation is simply defined as believing that something you want or don’t want is going to happen. It is also believing that something should happen or not happen in a certain way. Expectations are all about what you focus on. If you focus on what you don’t want to happen, it will happen. If you focus on what you do want to happen, it will happen. You try and fit your life into your expectations, and this is the reason expectations can hurt you. If you turn this around and create your expectations; by tak ing action today, you can make your expectations motivate you. Take Action! 1. Create your list of expectations. Take a clean page in your journal and start to write out your expectations, leaving space to answer the questions below. It is important when you are thinking about your expectations that you take into account every situation and every person involved in your life. 2. Take each part of your life one at a time. For example:  Start with your family and then move onto your friends. Taking your immediate family (significant other and children); what do you expect from them?  Then expand out to the next level – what do you expect from your parents? Then what do you expect from your cousins and their families?  Then ask yourself ‘what do I expect from my friends?’  Move onto your work or business life. What do you expect from your career?
