 Transparency in that both parties must be open to share their feelings and what they are thinking. If the ‘learning’ party does not understand, they must say so; and the ‘teaching’ party must accept what they are being told and find a different way to explain. This is important, as each generation communicates differently; and these differences will come out. The benefit to both parties is that they have the opportunity to see a situation from a different perspective. Although often this type of mentoring is available within companies, it should not be discounted outside of companies. Two people from different backgrounds can come together and share their knowledge and experience with each other. These backgrounds can be business driven, or cultural, or generation, or language, or hobby/interest specific, or anything that allows two people to come together to learn and benefit from the knowledge and experience of the other. Mentoring of all types should not be restricted, it is important to remember how much each person can learn from someone who is different to themselves. Volume4 AMARANTINE 45
