In the late 1950s, I was a patroller at Vincent Massey School in Calgary, and represented the school at the Calgary Stampede parade. I ended up working for AMA—until 1971, when I joined the Calgary Police Service (CPS). During my time there, I spent three years teaching traffic safety. I trained school patrols, hosted school patrol rallies at the Palace Theatre, and was on the Safety Roundup TV show. I again marched in the Stampede parade, this time as a police officer. My experience with the School Safety Patrol came full circle. —Verne F., CALGARY AMA InsIder Fall 2018 7
