known for its life science and telecom
technology businesses. Tech establishments
are scattered throughout San Diego, however,
the highest concentrations include UTC,
Sorrento Valley, and Sorrento Mesa with the
biggest corporate companies employing a total
of over 20,000 people. A majority of the Life
San Diego major tech and med-tech firms
Science companies are located near each other
in the Torrey Pines, Sorrento Valley, Sorrento
Mesa, and UTC submarkets. Carlsbad and
Oceanside have also seen life science
companies increasing in these North County
submarkets as well. Employers with large
employee counts include Qualcomm (12,600),
Becton Dickinson (3,975), ViaSat (2,300),
Illumina (2,800).
