I wrote this children’s mystery not only to step out of my comfort zone of dark, gothic fiction, but also to encourage my daughter to read. My daughter Ellie struggles with literacy and therefore does not enjoy reading. I figured that the best way to encourage her to read was to write a story in which her and her twin sister Maddie were the protagonists. In this excerpt from the book Ellie and Maddie and the Mystery of the Missing Tooth, you will experience suspense, drama, and even a bit of comic relief as Ellie and Maddie learn not to be quick to point fingers until they have gathered all of the evidence.
