Alumnus Vol. 52, No. 3 | Page 2

As the weather gets warmer, many of us begin making vacation plans while perhaps incorporating some CEU hours into our travels. I hope you would consider Homecoming at NUHS this year as the continuing education topics are representative of the broad-based education that you received as a student. I am always amazed at the varied professional positions, places, and expertise my fellow alumns hold.

While many of us are familiar with Homecoming at our respective high schools and undergraduate institutions, NUHS carries on that tradition of collectively celebrating our institution's achievements and position in our profession. It's a great opportunity to get reacquainted with your alma mater and relive those academic memories as nothing beats the smell of the gross anatomy lab to stimulate your limbic system.

There are also great opportunities to network with alumni from near and far. There is no better way to develop a referral network than meeting potential providers face-to-face. How many times have you struggled in finding a referral for a patient that is relocating or on an extended vacation? Your referral carries more weight, I believe, when you can say that you have met and know them.

There is also ample opportunity to become updated about the current state of NUHS academic programs and campus improvements. In addition to President Stiefel's State of University address, this information can be learned first-hand from the increasing number of current students that attend the Homecoming festivities. Personally, being able to speak to the current students about their experiences and sharing my professional life with them is a wonderful encouragement to me and hopefully I to them. Who knows, you may even meet your next associate?

While there are no King and Queen on a parade float or football game to attend, there is always time for eating, libations, and seeing faculty doing the Electric Slide at the reception. I hope you are able to join me this year, June 22-24, for what is shaping up to be a great time.

Sincerely,

Darren D. Hancock, DC, DACBSP
