A State of Illinois grant, applied for and received by NUHS, has made possible the placement of 15 display screens around the Illinois site. The screens provide an avenue for communication for NUHS events and daily happenings as part of an increased communication initiative.

The display screens also help increase the university's ability to provide improved campus safety through E2Campus (emergency notification system). In addition to alerts received through email and text messages, emergency notifications will also be displayed on the screens.

Grant Funds LRC's Technology Bar

The National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) recently awarded National University's Learning Resource Center (LRC) a technology grant worth $4,300. The grant funded a new Technology Bar and iPad Station, expanding digital reference and educational materials available to students at the LRC.

Thanks to the grant, the LRC now has five iPads outfitted with apps suggested by National University students, such as: Essential Anatomy: a 3-D anatomical model of the human body; Notability: a powerful note taker; and Khan Academy: offering science sections on physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, health and medicine. LRC Expands Its Outreach

Alumni attending the 2016 Homecoming (June 16-18) will be able to participate in some special activities in the library during the event. Alumni can also check with the LRC staff on how to access research services and request books via interlibrary loan. Current NUHS Alumni Association members are also eligible for one research assistance request and one photocopied article free of charge during each fiscal year.

Not only are students being enticed into the Learning Resource Center with upgraded digital resources, but the LRC staff is also inviting them, along with the rest of the NUHS community to discover that the library is more than just a place to study.

and Reference Librarian Russ Iwami

In recent months, the LRC has hosted many new events, such as coffee breaks and lunch and learn programs designed to introduce the new director, brand-new features, and special programs at the library. They've also hosted meetings for different interest groups (i.e. Book Club, Yarn Club) and created fun new events such as Pi (Pie) Day where they invited participants to enjoy a math quiz along with a mini baked pie treat.
