each other leading to the closure of a primary school utilized by both communities. Using the knowledge she acquired while studying conflict resolution as part of her coursework, Annabel for a period of one week, talked and listened to the village elders, visited student families and teachers who embraced her as a well-meaning person. She emphasized on education being the foundation towards enhancing the community’s growth both economically and socially. In September last year, way after Annabel had left Garissa, she learnt that the school had reopened and students sat for their national examinations (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education).

Annabel attributes her impact in society to USIU-Africa from where she quotes, “USIU-Africa empowered me to stand out as an individual and make the desired change.” Annabel had the opportunity to travel to India for 3 months internship through AIESEC. Alone in strange lands, she faced her challenges and realized that change begins from an individual who then influences others as is evident in the Garissa project.

Annabel is keen on impacting the society through mentorship, coaching, reaching out to the marginalized and encouraging them to live to their full potential. “I owe it to my Alma Mater for helping me discover my full potential.”
