When Roseann Muthoni, 48, received her letter of admission to Moi University over 30 years ago, she was stunned! She would be the second person and the first girl from her village to go to university. Mrs. Maina had no idea that her journey to Eldoret for her degree in education would ultimately be the foundation for her position as founder and director of Goodhope Group of Schools, one of the leading schools in Kasarani- Embakasi area.
In the beginning
Despite the lack of a business background, Mrs. Maina started Mwiki Goodhope academy in 2001 with the help of her husband, George Maina. “ For the first two terms after opening the school, I had only one pupil, one
teacher and one classroom in a three roomed-block building," explains RoseAnn. The pupil was paying Kes. 5000 per term and my husband would have to pay the teacher’s salary,” she says.
Enrolling for 10,000 women program
When a friend mentioned the 10,000 women’s program at USIU-Africa, she immediately applied for 2011 intake.
“The six-month program opened my eyes and turned around the business 360 degrees” says Roseann. Before attending the annual program, the school was stagnant and was seeing an annual turnover of four million Kshs, staff
