f you would agree that getting children to eat a
nutritious meal is a challenge at the dinner table,
imagine the challenge of getting more than 12,000
children to eat a healthy meal each day.
Until recently, that task fell upon Dorothy Thompson,
Allen ISD’s long-time student nutrition director.
Thompson retired on December 20 after 26 years of
service to the school district but her leadership behind
the scenes will impact the program for years to come.
Thompson grew up in the small northern Illinois
community of Wilton Center.

for a local bakery and catering
