Paul Dawson and Rick Kendrick our DT technicians are
doing sterling work in assembling and welding the steel
tubes together, even at the cost of a couple of shirts.
A grand unveil should take place early in the
Michaelmas term.
Come join the Party!
It’s back! Our biggest event of the year “PARTY at
POCK” with 100% of the money raised going to two
local charities: St Leonards Hospice, York,
providing care and support for local people with life
threatening illnesses and Pocklington Imagination
Library, a local charity which distributes free
monthly books to children under five.
It is billed to be a great night of outdoor family
entertainment, dressed up gazebos, posh picnics and
singing your heart out on a balmy summer evening. The
stage will be set at 6:00pm on Saturday June 28th and
we hope you agree that Pocklington has some amazing
talent!
We look forward to performances from Fred Jibson, Amy
Crowther, Flo Taylor and OP Claire Russell. Our regular
favourites, Fin Henderson & friends will hit the high notes
and we all like a bit of Paddy, Jordan & Rufus. You will
be wowed by Bad Robot (OP's 2001-09), The Swing Band
will be putting in a top-notch performance as always and
we hope to see you up on your feet bopping to the Staff
Band!
A firework finale at 11:00pm will bring the night to a
close and we expect a rousing rendition of Jerusalem.
Tickets are going fast and all gazebo pitches are sold out.

Celebrations for the 500th anniversary of our foundation
started last September with a photograph of the whole
school community and the presentation of a replica of the
seal from the 1514 foundation document. The seal was
made by Mr Edwards and now hangs in pride of place in
the main school corridor.
Mark your calendars
The manufacture of Magnus Swann’s Pavilion
Design is in progress.
As you can see from the photograph, the team has started
to fabricate the steel sub-frame on which the ply parts of
the pavilion will sit when it is bolted down to
the concrete pad in front of the Design Centre.
We look back at our special Quincentenary Year in
this edition of Allawalla.
LYNDHURST TODDLER AND BABY GROUP
Hall every Monday in
Come and join our regular stay and play sessions in Lyndhurst School
is an opportunity to meet other parents
term time from 8.30am to 10am. All Welcome. This
in a relaxed fun atmosphere. Sessions are free and run on a drop-in basis.
Parents, Old Pocklingtonians and Friends of the school
are always welcome to come and support our pupils on
the sports field, on the stage and at other events during
the year. The following list is just a selection of this

At the end of the Michaelmas Term, The Friends Christmas
Masquerade Ball was a great success. A series of OP
reunion dinners in London, Cambridge and York during the
year have tempted some alumni back to their old school
for the first time in decades renewing old friendships. At
school, Lectures, and a Foundation Play on the History of
Pocklington School performed by staff and pupils at the
end of April brought us all up-to-speed on the school’s
origins including Lyndhurst who also celebrated their
100th anniversary year. In May we were privileged to
welcome HRH the Duke of York for the Biennial Inspection
of the Combined Cadet Force. Prince Andrew was our first
ever royal visitor, and many pupils were excited to have
the opportunity to chat and share a joke with him during
his visit.
Music has also played a significant role in our
celebrations. There have been concerts of every kind,
The Band of the Royal Armoured Corps led the CCF
parade. At York Minster The Band of The Yorkshire
Regiment played for worshippers before the service
and our own
Mr Tom Taylor played the organ. However, for music
lovers past and present the highlight was the Spring
Quincentenary Music Festival in May when pupils and Old
Pocklingtonians, including Alexandra Dariescu, returned to
give a series of concerts and masterclasses with current
pupils. It will be remembered for a very long time.
Special sporting events have also played their part,
in some instances with the dual role of supporting
fundraising for good causes, for example, The Race for
Life in aid of Cancer Research which was held in October.
And it is not over yet. The Friends of Pocklington School
are hosting Party@Pock for parents on the 28th June and
the following day a Summer Reunion for former pupils will
be hosted by the Old Pocklingtonian Association followed
by a Qunicentenary Concert in the Tom Stoppard Theatre.
Our special gues t at prizegiving in July will be Professor
Christopher Dobson, Master of St John’s College,
Cambridge. Our founder John Dowman was also a
benefactor of St John’s and the school still retains this
historic association: Professor Dobson is also a Patron of
Pocklington 500. Our final celebratory event will take
place in November: a dinner hosted by the Old
Pocklingtonian Association preceded by evensong in
St Paul’s Cathedral where Dowman is buried.
