17 Steps for using VESS Concept Webs For each unit of inquiry or monthly theme, there is a concept web that is built from the six human unity concepts from VESS program. Remember these human unities represent the major questions humanity has been trying to solve throughout history. (See module 1 for more information) What to do with the web: □ □ □ □ □ Check the web and enrich it with your own knowledge of the theme. Circle the areas that represent your own personal interests. Set up a provocation with your students to introduce the unit of inquiry and discover previous knowledge, experiences, questions that arise and lines of interests in the group. o Be sure to include thinking routines, the thinking keys, concept maps and documentation strategies to be able to make their thinking visible for further planning and to grow from there. This is fundamental for differentiated instruction and for making the exploration of the theme significant to all. You will be working and building up from their inner motivation! Have the curriculum guideline and standards for your group of children in mind/hand and according to your assessment of your group of students, highlight in the web, possible areas of inquiry that could better serve you to accomplish your goals. With the web in mind, the suggestions sent in modules 2 and 3, with your knowledge of the groups need and with their interests and your own interests too, set up a “road map” for the learning journey you will have (remember you are also part of the group and your interests are also valid as are theirs.
