Circle time: Small groups routine: Children’s VESS
roll call, welcoming greeting, songs, rimes, weather,
news, B/days, topic themes talk, storytelling, reading
books,(see planning book for activities while
reading) look at pictures and images, Literacy time,
invite parents, etc.
Roll call: Every classroom must have a system for
children to look for their name or picture and
show assistance to school. This promotes selfconcept, name recognition, social skills, etc
IT IS A MUST!
Outside play: 15’- 30’ Pre-planned and directed
activities for Physical development that include:
Clime, roll, pull, push, crawl, jump, run, hop, throw,
grasp, ride, walk in a line, sensory stimulation,
Listening to nature sounds, pretend play (“let’s
pretend we are in___ and we see__”), follow
instructions, etc. Interact with children during their
play time to encourage diff act and challenge them.
Language: See planner & scope for description.
Promote conversation with the children. Give them
enough time to respond. Remember at this age they
respond physically and verbally. They love
repetition, be a good role model. Use a wide variety
of lexicon, promote English and Spanish talk,
describe, narrate your actions, sing, etc Every
moment can be a rich language experience! CoT
Art: See planner & scope for description. Let child
do his/her own work. Respect their pace, challenge
and encourage independence and creativity.
Encourage them to express feelings and ideas. Be
patient. Question what they are doing. Never give
them photocopies to do; there shouldn’t be two
works alike if it’s really done by the children.
Physical ed/ inside and outside classroom.
Hygiene, body concept, coordination, control,
movement and care
Gross motor activities & coordination
Cognitive: Puzzles, match game, sort, classify, link,
build, count, colors, shapes. Problem solving. Ask
them questions, let them explore and try.
Manipulative, table games, math etc.
