The Flag
Kenya´s flag is based on the Kenyan African National Union (KANU). The colors
symbolize the ethnic majority in Kenya (black), the blood spilled during the fight for freedom
(red), the natural richness (green); the white stripes (that were later added to differentiate the
national flag from that of the party). The traditional Maasai shield (black, red, and white) and
the two spears symbolize the defense of freedom.
Typical Dances
When we talk about dances in Africa, we are
automatically referring to music and dance; they are
inseparable around the whole country. Even though many
dances have choreography, they still include a high
percentage of improvisation. It is very rhythmic and follows
the rhythm with any or all parts of the body. African dances
are very well known around the world as the “belly dances”.
The export and miscegenation of modern rhythms has
allowed that the African musical rhythms and movements in
their dances have become generalized in other continents.
African dances have many uses or motives, from
celebrations, funeral dances, dances that are only performed before the chief of a tribe, etc.
Studying a country connects us directly with the following Human Units:
.-Understanding myself.
How I identify with my culture and how can I continue with my traditions
.-Understanding how I relate with others.
