5 The Flag Originally, the dance of the dragon, born during the Han Dynasty (206AC – 220DC), was a ceremony of respect for the forefathers and a petition of rain to heaven, which later became a recreation. Later, during the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties, the dance of the dragon was already very common in New Year festivities and other festive events.
