Monthly Topic: My School
The topic “My School” has traditionally been a typical topic that comes up when working
with children.
In the VESS Model, after careful analysis of the important topics to cover with boys and
girls, we decided that the school topic is truly significant for them, and hence, a good topic to be
able to develop different projects at all infant ages.
Once the topic has been defined, we consider it is of utmost importance to relate it with
each of the aspects contained in the VESS disk. That is the only way we can guarantee that the
topic may be a generator of significant experiences that will guide us to the promotion of habits
of mind that may help us form balanced human beings from childhood on, sure of themselves,
that feel that they can offer something to others and that value other people’s points of view.
Citizens that have a voice, a vote, rights, and responsibilities; in other words, VESS citizens.
Beginning from this link between the VESS disk and the monthly topic, we have the following
project that we suggest working on for this month of learning.
My School and I
At Edu1st schools, we are always willing to pay attention and listen to the children’s
perceptions, their needs, values, ideologies, and priorities.
Only by listening with true interest, will we be able to improve as teachers and facilitators
and we will be able to have real dialogues with the boys and girls starting at very early ages.
Only this way will we be able to get to know them as they truly are and discover what their
thoughts are.
The questions that appeared between the team of Edu1st teachers were:
1. If we are apprentices and the children accompany us in our building of knowledge, what
is something that we, as teachers, honestly would like to know about the topic?
