Letter for the teachers
Dear colleagues,
This month we are introducing the topic “From Rough Materials to Us and Back.” The
central idea is to understand how we simply started from rough materials and how we ended up
in this technological world. Also, how these technologies helped us travel back, investigate and
interact with the past, get to know about human creativity and innovation. Before we start the
exploration let’s take a moment to wonder why innovate? What is so important with creativity
and innovation? What will happen if we all have the confidence to try something new? Being
innovative is about looking beyond what we currently do, identifying the great ideas of
tomorrow and putting them into practice. But why we need that? Only the title of this monthly
topic reveals the need and certainly rings the bell for creativity and innovation! Our world is
ever-changing; hence, we can’t stand still. Today’s students want an education that not only
meets their individual needs but also an education that provides opportunities that link them to
what is happening around the world.
Moreover, students live in a borderless world offering unlimited connection, data and
mobility. That challenges us, as educators, to be innovative and to make learning environments
more exciting and more challenging. Learning environments should deliver in ways that are
compatible with and support our students’ world view. Consequently, it follows that education
should focus on fostering innovation by setting curiosity, critical thinking, deep understanding,
reflection, tools of inquiry and tools of thought at the center of our children’s experiences.
