Provocations: Day to day, present a state of matter to be explored.
LIQUID
Begin with water. Let them play with it, change containers, mix with colors, and do
research in books, videos of nature that contain water. Be creative; take advantage of
the different spaces in school to promote different sites, and diverse and significant
experiences.
Investigate where there is water; why there is water, what do we want to know about
water.
o What other things is water similar to?
1. Could they be water?
Present other liquids for them to explore:
o Oil
o Honey
o Alcohol
o Liquid dish soap
o Color dyes
Use each tool for thought in a different context.
Promote careful observation
Name and make notes of the student’s actions while they evidence the thinking processes
and celebrate them.
