10 Suggested Thought Routines Conceptual Maps I see/I think/I wonder Approach Comprehension In order to generate deep comprehension with sense, teachers are invited to connect this month´s topic to the previous ones (e.g. If I Were an Astronaut…). It is important to take previous experiences into account in order to, little by little, build a collaborative comprehension. That way, you won´t be fostering the expertise on the topic, but rather the flexpertise, which is the ability to transfer information to different contexts and create something of your own. Along the projects and activities developed, the teachers have the responsibility to listen attentively, document, and validate the student´s thoughts. “How Things Work” is focused on the operation, however, you can talk about the way not only things function, but also about: Personal relationships Feelings Nature Science, and more This topic connects to last month´s topic “If I Were an Astronaut”, because the students can explore the way space ships function, and the way the universe in general functions. This in turn connects with nature (e.g. How plants grow/the food we eat every day, how they arrive at our tables?)
