Thinking Bag – Tips for Home
Activities for Infants
o Read a variety of books and stories with your young baby. Certainly, reading to infants
encourages speech and language development and is a great way to interact and
communicate with your baby. The earlier babies are exposed to reading, the more they
will enjoy reading and learning.
Recommended Thinking Routine: See/Think/Wonder: This Thinking Routine
encourages us to make careful observations and thoughtful interpretations. It helps
stimulate curiosity and sets the stage of inquiry. Model the language. Ask your baby
what he/she sees in the illustrations of books. Name colors, shapes and everything that
comes to his/her attention. Ask your baby what he/she thinks it will happen in this story.
Wonder with your baby and tell him/her aloud “I wonder what will happen in this book”
I wonder what is the story about” “I wonder what will happen next”
Use the Connection Thinking Key: How is this story or image related to other things?
Where might I see or experience it again? What is something new or different?
Relationship, like, change, similarities.
o Allow your young baby to explore cloth books and books with touch-and-feel textures.
These kind books are appealingly designed to stimulate a baby’s burgeoning sensory
awareness.
