This month I spy Tolerance
One of the most essential tools that children need in their social toolbox is the attitude to
be tolerant of others. Undoubtedly, learning to be tolerant and respectful of others is crucial to
being successful in life; hence, it is essential for children to learn to accept others from an early
age. Sometimes, simply by learning about the interests and beliefs of other people is enough to
foster tolerance in a home. Children need to understand that every person, including themselves,
is unique in some way, and that what makes the world so very fascinating. We believe that it is
very imperative to teach our children tolerance and acceptance in order to prepare them to be
open-minded in this very diverse world. In order to do so from a young age there are few tips
that parents can apply at home to promote tolerance:
Discuss with your children how each family member is unique. What are the
characteristics that make you unique? What about me? What about another family
member? Taking turns and talk about you it automatically teaches respect of one’s
self, and that is one of the most essential keys to teaching tolerance to a young
human being.
