7 • See/Think/Wonder: This Thinking Routine encourages us to make careful observations and thoughtful interpretations. It helps stimulate curiosity and sets the stage of inquiry. Visit a store and apply the Thinking Routine. It can be any kind of store. Ask your child: What do you see? The “see” is about evidence and not interpretations. Encourage your child to point at what he/she sees. Then ask your child: What do you thing about this store? What do you think is going on here? This part is about making interpretations. Then ask your child: What does the store make you wonder? As your child is making questions and wonders he/she is going beyond interpretations and gets a deeper understanding of the place. • Headline: This is a routine for capturing essence. Encourage your child to describe his/her favorite store. If possible visit that store and let them explore the environment. Then encourage your child to give a name or a title that comes in mind at that certain moment about that store. Activities for 3,4&5’s • Wheel of Wonder: Use this Thinking Routine to introduce the concept of the scientific method. Plan to cook a certain food and prepare the list for the ingredients with your child. Visit a local grocery store with your child to get the ingredients and help them make connections and develop an understanding of how we buy products and how the store is directly linked to our daily lives.
